Mushroom World Group’s ₹20 Crore CNG Project Begins in Salamatpur

A new revolution of sustainable energy has begun in Salamatpur, Madhya Pradesh. Mushroom World Group, in collaboration with local cooperative societies, has launched a ₹20 crore biogas-to-CNG plant powered entirely by Napier Grass.

Napier grass is a high-yield, renewable energy crop that needs minimal irrigation and tolerates high temperature ranges (15°C–40°C) and is known for its rapid growth and bioenergy potential.

Every ton of Napier Grass used for bio-CNG offsets 1.6 tons of CO₂ compared to fossil fuel-based CNG.

This project is set to transform 50 acres of land into productive Napier Grass cultivation, marking a significant step toward green energy, farmer empowerment, and sustainability.

A Sustainable Model: Napier Grass to Power the Future

Under the project, Mushroom World Group has signed an agreement for the production of Napier Grass on 100 acres of farmland in the Salamatpur region.

The aim is to not only generate clean fuel but also provide farmers with an alternative and sustainable source of income. Napier Grass offers a consistent five-year yield cycle, making it a dependable crop with long-term benefits.

“Our goal is to create energy that doesn’t come at the cost of nature or livelihood,” said a senior official from Mushroom World Group. “With Napier-based CNG, we’re ensuring both—cleaner air and better income for farmers.”

The main ideology behind this iconic move is that the plant will process the grass to produce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a cleaner fuel that can power vehicles and industries alike. As per the plan, the CNG plant will have a daily production capacity of 3 tons, ensuring large-scale economic viability and a sustainable environment and ecosystem around!

But why Napier grass?

Napier Grass, popularly known as Elephant Grass or Super Grass, is emerging as a bioenergy game-changer, especially for states like Madhya Pradesh, where semi-arid conditions and vast unused land offer perfect cultivation potential.

  • High Biomass Yield:

In Madhya Pradesh’s climatic conditions, Napier can produce 130–150 tons of biomass per hectare annually, matching the top yields seen in countries like Thailand. This ensures consistent feedstock for CNG plants.

  • Rapid Regrowth and 5-Year Lifecycle:

Once planted, it regenerates after every harvest for up to five years, reducing replanting costs for local farmers. For regions like Salamatpur, this means long-term stability in income and supply.

  • High Methane Potential:

Each ton of dry Napier biomass can yield 230–280 cubic meters of biogas with 55–60% methane content, comparable to global standards set by FAO and IRENA.

  • Low Maintenance and Drought-Resistant:

Madhya Pradesh’s dry belts benefit from its C4 photosynthesis system, which allows it to thrive in low rainfall and high-temperature zones, perfect for areas where other crops struggle.

  • Global Connection:

Nations like Kenya, Thailand, and Brazil have adopted Napier-based biogas systems, producing renewable CNG that powers buses and rural industries. With similar geography and potential, Madhya Pradesh’s Salamatpur plant places India firmly on the same clean-energy map.

The change: 1900 Farmers from 28 villages

The Salamatpur project will directly benefit over 1,900 farmers across 28 nearby villages. Mushroom World Group has partnered with the Salamatpur Cooperative Society to support farmers with seeds, training, and procurement, ensuring zero wastage and consistent returns.

The ₹20 crore plant currently under construction… will have an initial capacity of 3 tons of CNG per day. This will help reduce regional dependence on fossil fuels while cutting carbon emissions significantly and prominently!

With India’s energy demand expected to double by 2030 (as per IEA), MUSHROOM WORLD GROUP has prepared itself to be in the forefront as/when needed for the country.

 Mushroom World Group’s Ideology:

This initiative aligns with Mushroom World Group’s larger mission— to blend biotechnology, agriculture, and renewable energy into a single ecosystem of sustainable growth.

From mushroom cultivation to green fuel, the company is consistently working toward harnessing nature’s resources responsibly. “Napier Grass is not just a crop for us—it’s  a catalyst for cleaner fuel, better farming, and a stronger rural economy.”
